Today after a long lovely walk we found ourselves passing Tintern Abbey in Monmouthshire and with a spare couple of hours it seemed a shame not to stop.
An area of outstanding beauty with this beautiful shell of a Abbey in the middle of it, we all enjoyed the time we had to run around and explore. My 6 year old loved running around on his own and just popping back whilst pretending to be a king and I felt comfortable with him doing so.
Unlike many of the castle and church ruins we have visited you do have to pay for this one and be warned of the dreaded gift shop that you can’t avoid. It is free for under 5s but may cost you something in the shop.
On a warm day take a picnic to save a few pounds. Car parking £3 for the day but you can get £3 off in the gift shop if you take your car park pass.
