Self-care is meant to be good and positive; it’s designed to relax you and make you feel good so you don’t get sick or burnout. The problem is that some elements of self-care, like exercising, going to bed early, and eating healthily, might not sound all that fun. In fact, they might sound awful, and that could mean you don’t do them at all. Now, while that would be your choice, it would also mean you won’t be as healthy as you could be, so it’s not ideal.
That’s why it makes sense to have fun while you practice self-care and to make those things you don’t like so much become a lot more positive and easier to add to your life. With that in mind, here are some of the ways you can do exactly that.
Choose Fun Activities
The first way to make self-care more fun is to choose fun activities. If you’ve taken some time off work, for example, or you have a free day at the weekend, you could stay home and relax, and that’s not a bad idea at all. However, you could also go out and do something fun that you’re going to enjoy. That’s a form of self-care, and as long as you’re not thinking about work and can really be in the moment, it’s something that can really benefit you.
Think about the things you want to do and make a list so that when you know you have some time to yourself coming up, you can make all the necessary arrangements and really enjoy that time. You could do anything, from trying an Audi driving experience to taking a cooking class or running a marathon – the choice is yours, just make sure you’re having fun!
Create A Great Playlist
As we mentioned above, there are some things you have to do to practice self-care that aren’t exactly fun on their own – or at least, they’re not fun for everyone. If you’re not someone who likes to clean the house or exercise or go outside in nature to enjoy the benefits it brings, then you certainly don’t have to do it; you don’t have to do anything. The issue is, of course, that you would be missing out.
One way to get past that first hurdle in getting started (because don’t forget, when you do these things, the body produces more serotonin as a result, which makes you feel happy and positive about what you’re doing) is to create a great playlist and listen to your favorite music while you’re doing these activities. The music will relax you and make you feel good, and studies have shown that it can even help you work out better, so it’s an ideal way to get moving at the very least.
Make Exercise A Game
Another way to enjoy self-care more and to make it fun is to turn exercise into a game. You can challenge yourself to do better each time you work out or take on a sport, and you can join classes where you compete against other people. You could even get the entire family involved and compete against them – not only is it fun, but you can make sure that everyone is getting as healthy as you are.
The more fun you can make exercise, the more you’ll do it, and that’s a positive thing no matter how you look at it.
